Internal Front............

Internal Front……………….    BY: Rashid Khan

The main role of a state is to provide security and social safety to its citizens. That is why this factor is considered as the most important indicator of a successful state that its citizens feel secured as a result of efforts and precaution adopted by state in this regard. Though constitution ensures the security of common man but according to number of recent surveys been conducted by numerous organizations, this is the true but vexing fact that majority of Pakistanis feel extremely unsafe and vulnerable in their own country.

Pakistanis are facing number of fears including the ‘uncontrollable terrorist attacks’, Free Hand Political cum ethnic and Sectarian targeted killings, Powerful Land grabbers, Drug dealers, Street Thugs and arsonists, and especially the extremist and totally intolerant society. In spite of all these fatal challenges, Government seems in-capable of providing social security to its immeasurable poor taxpayers (90% is being paid by those with 2% of total income while 10% is paid by those with the 98% of total income ).

The present economic and un-certain political situation have made the life of common Pakistanis unlivable (except those who can afford private militias). With the soaring inflation rates and flood the crime rate all over the country has also tremendously increased. Northern Province of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa was already at war (with no future hope) and Balouchistan is a ‘No go Area’ (Mr. Raisani himself spends more time in Islamabad); now the major cities like Karachi and Lahore are also giving the same picture. Unprecedented number of people lost their lives as a result of targeted killings solely in ‘the city of lights (with 06 hrs daily breakdown)’. Increased number of bank robberies and abductions provide a proof to the lawlessness in the country. Incidents like torching the shops at Lighthouse after Ashura Mayhem last year evidences that there is no real insurance for common man provided by the state. Industries got closed, forget about the foreign investments, local businessmen have shifted there investments to third world countries like Bangladesh, Sri lanka and many African countries.  Sufi sanctuaries are also not safe anymore as a result of recent attacks on Shrines all over the country. While on the flipside Government is busy with the Judiciary at Constitution Avenue. This is the high time to make Police competent to tackle with such a situation. Other than VIP patrolling, police has failed to perform its constitutional role. Corruption, un-trained personnel, political affiliations, un-professional attitudes etc have already made police unpopular among the populations. Incidents like Sialkot’s inhuman Act shows that people do not consider police as an effective or the reliable state institution.

Huge Parliament of 442 members can not solve the home grown terrorism by bringing them (most of them were Pro-Pakistanis and well known Philanthropists) to table for the reconciliation talks. Unfortunately, when we closely analyze the situation in Karachi, it is extremely dangerous and worrisome that all the political parties in the ruling coalition accuse one another for all the killings as each party has told the press that they can provide proofs for the involvement of other parties in the never ending bloodshed. Still, not a single party is been banned for all such unlawful actions (Why Jamaat ud Da’wa and TTP?????).Mr. Malik is satisfied after warning the un-pointed terrorist actors and holding talks with the political parties (What is the point to hold talks with the political parties if they are not involved in it????????????????).

Keeping the present situation in the view, ‘Friendly’ Opposition Leader Mr. Nawaz Sharif should include the security agenda in his proposed “Charter of Pakistan”. And rather conspiring against the active Judiciary and the unfavorable Media, Government should end the Mickey Mouse approach on extremely sensitive internal security issues and should build a consensus among all the institutions and start working cohesively to curb the ever increasing internal threats and call for prompt actions to avoid a historic decline before an American drone attacks Parliament House. We should not care much on what Obama is saying in New Delhi but should address the threats within our boundaries.
